SOS Challenge #8

This week's SOS challenge is Out with the Old or In with the New..... "Use the paper and/or embellishments that you have “saved” because it was special,  find your oldest designer paper and use it, OR break out your newest items and use THEM! Be sure to tell us what you are using in your post!"

I still had my last shipment from SU sitting in it's box - mostly stuff from the retiring list, so I chose paper (sweet & sour DSP) AND ribbon (pumpkin pie taffeta) from the box. And I lurve the finished product!

Once again, I needed gift card holders, so same basic design as the "thanks a latte" cards from a few weeks ago, but diff colors. I cut the DSP too narrow, so used the narrower part of the Top Note die, and made square cards & then envies to match, also with paper from the pack of DSP. Please excuse the white border inside the envelope - double sided tape for mailing :)

Gift card holders!

Oh those last minute crafty items. The last two evenings I've been working on making gift card-ish holders for J & his parents. We're big on gift cards in our family.. just so. much. easier. There are real gifts too, but they've already been wrapped.

For my MIL: a skinny silver tin that opens to hold a purty old olive gift card holder. I (finally!) used my scallop edge punch, and I love the look. Somehow I ended up with the scallops un-aligned, but eh, it looks fine. The gift card is tension-held in place, and I've ended up taking the ribbon off the sides. The fit is tight enough to hold the card until Thursday. Next time I'll emboss the tin or fancy it up a bit more, but I do like it as is.

For my FIL: A matchbook-esque holder using fun Frosty Day paper to hold his gc.

I have a few gift certificate-ish things for J. I love using the Top Note Bigz Die, so I made this for one of his stocking stuffers:
For J's gift from my parents (can you tell I'm on a Close to Cocoa color kick? :D)

And finally, to hold some hockey (not NHL, boo) tickets:

I have a confession...

I heart the SU Top Note Bigz Die, and the Brown felt ribbon, both of which you can find in the Holiday Mini Catalog. I have used my Top Note Bigz Die (I use it with my Cuttlebug, as I am not quite plush enough to get a Big Shot....) soooooooo much more than I thought I would, and I've only had it for a few weeks! I wasn't sure about the ribbon at first, but now, I'm in lurrrrrrrrrve.

Here are two gift card holders that I made using both of these products. I made the blue one first, to hold dad's birthday gift. At first, I had the ribbon coming out the two ends, and it was to be tied on the far right, but it didn't close properly, so I switched it up. When I had it laying flat across the note though, I thought it looked like a belt... which brought me to holder number 2. This holder is cased on an idea I saw on the blogosphere, but I can't remember where! my bad!! I love this holder, and think my SIL's boyfriend will get a kick out of it. whaddya think??

Once again, don't forget about my BLOG CANDY!!! Contest closes Sunday at 11:59 AST (10:59 EST)
