Card Patterns Sketch meet Hero Arts

This is a mish mash of the current Card Patterns sketch and the about-to-end Dust em off challenge at A Blog Named Hero.

I used my only (!) Hero Arts set - Four Dolls, and actually stamped four images, but only one made it onto the card. This was one of those "zOMG I NEED THIS" sets... which has sat unloved since it arrived, moons ago. I have friends who are currently (well, not this second, but you know) jumping through a squillion hoops in hopes of adopting a child from China. So hopefully this card will come in handy sooner than later. One can hope anyway.

The card is a bit spurkly (My desk and I are COVERED in gold smooch ATM...) and blingy, but i love it, so there :)

Paper Smooches Sparks challenge

I made this earlier in the week and almost forgot to post it - oops!

Anyway, here is my entry for this week's PS SparksDesigner Drafts challenge. We were give a great sketch, and this is what I came up with...

The background was made using two heart stamps from the Folkal Points set, stamped in versamark & embossed using iridescent EP. The funky bird is from that set as well. The sentiment on the front is from Sentiment Sampler. I even used a sentiment from my only other PS set, Hope, on the inside. CS and ribbon is SU.

I haven't gotten around to playing with the MFT sketch in a while, but I needed to make mother's day cards for our moms on thursday night, so i pulled up the sketch & got to work.

These cards are Huuuuuuuge. 6x8.5. huuuuuuge. I had taken the kidlet for his free mother's day portrait (& passport pics while we were there) this week, so the cards had to be big enough to hold the 6x8 pic.

The base is textured bashful blue, and the yellowy/goldish strip (golden smooch spray!) isfrom a pre-sprayed piece of the "magic" SU paper. the other two are from a DCWV glittered Stack (suuuper cute). the die on the side is MFT, and the buttony flower on the side is a mishmash of techniques :P because this card also uses three patterned papers, i'm entering it in this week's SOS too. yay for double entries! :P

this week's SOS challenge is to use 3(or more) patterned papers. I had to make up a card for a tweep anyway, so finally sat down to do it.

I used scraps of tone-on-tone rose red, pumpkin pie & turquoise SU DSPs, and a pre-cut wasabi top note die from a different scrap bin. Even the ribbon and card base had already been cut.

I quite like how the card turned out - the wasabi leaves tie the top note pc in nicely, and the gems in the fleurs give it a nice sparkle.

Meet Jakin & Shyla. I found them on By LORi Designs' site while blurfing earlier today... While cute, I thought this was "just another baby stamp.." but then I read the description beside the image... "These two cuties have been drawn in honor of 2 Precious Babies who live in heaven. You can read their stories at 'blessedbycreativejoy.' the proceeds from the sale of this digi will be donated by Hannah to the March of Dimes in honor and memory of Jakin Isaac and Shyla Joy"....my interest was piqued, so I clicked over to read more. As should you. I'll wait. Now, here's a kleenex - I couldn't get over hte heartbreak that poor family had been through. I have friends with Factor V Leiden, and one friend in particular who gave birth to twins last year - one alive, one stillborn - and the story really hit home. I feel so bad for this family, and others who have gone through similar ordeals. So, if you're looking for a new baby digi image, or just want to support a good cause, check out the Jakin & Shyla digi stamp.

How's this for girly? :D i know the amount of pink will hurt Leslie's eyes, but isn't she cute? i got the idea from Pinterest (where else, really), and made her up tonight after I cleaned up my cave. My friend out west had a baby girl last week, so this is perfect for them.

This is a true SOS card - everything was from scrap bins (cardstock, DSP, ribbon) and even the base was in the pile already.yay me for using scraps!

Here's my entry into the Paper Smooches "card stock only" contest. I used 2 stamps from my PS set "Folkal Points", and SU cardstock in Crumb Cake (base), Tangerine Tango, Perfect Plum, and uh, I'm actually not sure what color the blue is. it's old though - retired longtime now. Tangerine embossing powder, crumb cake ribbon and some itsy pearls finish it off. I know I said I wouldn't put a bow, but i haaaad to. had. hope you like!

SOS 50 - girly

This week at SOS the challenge is to make something girly.. I'd seen a card similar to this on Heather's blog, and wanted to recreate it. I also wanted to put a card in with a diaper bag I sold online (woo!) so came up with this. Heather used DSP, but I was trying to make an entry for the Paper Smooches "card stock only" contest, so I improvised. I used Tangerine Tango, Perfect Plum & kraft/crumb cake, and love hte combination. I mounted them on basic grey card stock, and embossed the PS sentiment with Tangerine Tango. The ribbon is from the stash of MFT ribbon I"ve got - I love how shimmery it is in real life (no, really)... easy to work with, too. I think it hides too much of hte actual card stock though, so I'll recreate with different ribbon (3/8" taffeta?) tonight.

I went surfing on Pinterest today to see what I could find to serve as inspiration for hubs' 40th birthday card.. I didn't find anything I wanted to CASE, but found lots of nautical, sailing, man-type cards that I did like. I pulled out my "Sail Away" stamp from SU & looked through my baggies from paper shares of the past, and found this beigy slightly distressed piece of DSP, and it was perfect. I inked the image in black (*gasp* I never use black ink!) and then cut out a mask so I could go to work on the water/sunset. The sunset isn't PERFECT, but I think it turned out ok. I'm no Zindorf, that's for sure ;) *bows to the wonderful Michelle Zindorf* I stamped the sentiment in the bottom in suede, and backed it on some suede holiday paper (hee!).. marina mist DSP & some oooooold vintage brads, et voila!

SOS 48 is water-related, so here's another.. water & a boat - fits the bill, so in it goes! Yay me!

Baby Shower -SOS style

I have been invited to a baby shower for a girl I've met through twitter, and in browsing her baby registry, have determined that her nursery is a "jungle" theme. So using that lil piece of info, plus some inspiration from this card on Pinterest (no, really), I came up with this...

I love the little jungle-ish animals from SU's Fox & Friend (which I hadn't used in forever & a day).. and the umbrella is from my very fave retired set "Font of You". The parents-to-be have not found out the sex of their child, so I've matted the card & sentiment in both pink pirouette & baja breeze. The umbrella is colored in baja/soft suede/pink, then embossed with the pearly embossing powder I've had for-ever. Animals were colored in kraft/suede on sparkly paper, and cut out. And man, cutting around those little tails was a PITA. but well worth it, bc they're cute. I colored tummies/spots in blue or pink and lightly sponged the embossed white panel with baja for "rain". I mean, it IS a shower card, right? ;)

SOS 48 is april showers/rain/water related - and hey, this has an umbrella on it, "rain" and the word shower. Plus a set I hadn't inked in forever (I think I"ve said that already, right? well, it's been so long, i mentioned it again)... Hope you like it!

The current Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge (which uh, ends tonight.. nothing like last minute, Chelle...) is based on a super cute bunny image from Pinterest. I saw a great Easter card on Heather's blog this morning, and decided to (somewhat) case it for LJ's Easter card...

The card uses two of the free digi images offered on the Paper Smooches blog - the basket and the word eggstra. The bunnypig's body is from the SU Button Buddies set. I cut off his ears and made punchy ears using the small oval and the word window. A pink button, some scallop-punched "grass", and some clouds from the punch-bin, et voilà!

AND, because there are at least two punched bits (ears/grass, possibly the die-cut clouds too), the card qualifies for SOS 46: punch it out! i'd like to point out that beside the 2 digi images, which i'd printed/cut a while ago, this entire card was made of scraps... yay me!

First time in a while i've posted something that wasn't made to go with a specific challenge.

LJ received a lovely quilt in the mail yesterday from one of his great aunts, and I wanted to make a card similar to the quilt to say thank you...

I used Memory Box papers for the "quilt" and trim, and then I paper pieced the bears on BG Marrakesh paper. their tummies are coated in caramel colored flock... i was going to run the whole thing through an embossing folder to give it more of a quilted look, but thought that might be a bit much... i'll try and get a pic of the real quilt up later..

Learn from my mistake...

Click through from your Reader to a blog post, don't be lazy like me... Apparently reading blog posts in Google Reader instead of clicking through comes with an unmentioned pitfall - whenever the post is updated, Reader updates the date to current, instead of whatever it should be. And then, things like this happen - i made this card for the March SFYTT challenge, thinking I could still link it up, but uh, no. When I saw the post date and time as today at 845 am, i was all excited - still time to play!! but ah well.

Regardless, I quite like what I came up with, even if it is another sympathy card. If you include the pet one from my post on the weekend, that's five sympathy cards in a week or so. About five too many, really. Especially in such a short period.

I followed the sketch fairly closely, except I'm a bit out of proportion with the vertical bits, and you can't really see the button-as-circular element under the seam binding bow.

mftwsc65 rainbow bridge

My friend`s beloved cat Theo died last month, and I wanted to send her a card to show my sympathies... She specifically mentioned the 'rainbow bridge' poem on FB when she updated that he'd died, so I used that theme to make this card for her... I tried to make a rainbow out of my huuuuuge button stash, and i printed the poem & "Waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge" on vanilla CS. The poem is inside the card, and usually I put the sentiment inside as well, but I was also playing with the MFTWSC65 sketch, so used it in place of the small rectangular sentiment on the sketch. I even made the card square like the sketch, instead of adapting it to A2.

Another SOS card! yay for stash usage!

I have somewhat cased this card from the lovely Crookedstamper (aka Leslie)... she'd made one similar to this shortly after buying her Cameo machine, and i loved those cutout letters so much I asked her to make me some too.

So anyway... I used my last pink front (of 6! yeesh - that's a lot of baby girls! all 6 blue fronts still sit in their baggie...), and mounted that on some sparkly pink and vanilla DSP from many moons (and catalogs..) ago. Mount all that on a pink base, add a bit of vanilla and pink ribbon from the bin as a "bow" and a little white-ish button, et voilà - cute stashy card number two for the evening.

again. Maybe THAT should be the title of this blog, bc it seems to happen more often than not that I get my challenge stuff done just before the linkies close... y'know, when I get a chance to play at all.

Anyway, I digress. This week's SOS challenge was buttons and/orbows. I made two cards that fit this requirement - and both use mucho stash paper too (and ribbon! and buttons!)

This is the first card I made tonight.. it's a sympathy card for a coworker. Her partner passed away last week after a very short encounter with that blasted Cancer.

The DSP, button and ribbon have all been in their respective bins for months.. and I don't think I've used the hydrangea stamp in ages either... I think i may FINALLY be out of that baby blue ribbon... time for *gasp* twine? we will see, we will see..

Anyway, I'll be back in a bit with my second UTWSOS card.... please try and contain your excitement :P

I'll leave perfect to Hallmark...

I wanted to include a card with a parcel of baby clothes I was sending to a friend, so pulled out the MFT Sketch from this week & knew the perfect set to use - My How You've Grown WTG. (second sketch challenge of the week. wooo! go me!)

I love how this turned out, even though I had to squish the sketch a bit to fit the sentiment. I love the colors/papers esp - the pinks & orange w choc chip are great together. I don't love the ribbon, but if I don't use it, i can't really justify nicer stuff, right? (like THAT has stopped me before...) And ya, it's a bit (ok, a lot) crooked, but umm... thems are the joys of home made. it's not perfect, it won't be. I'll leave perfect to Hallmark...

Mojo Monday 232

I got a chance to play with this week's Mojo Monday sketch last night - yay! I knew which image/sentiment I wanted to use, so I turned the sketch on it's side, as I figured it worked better that way. Here's the sketch...

...and here's my card.

I quite like how it turned out, even though this is the 4th iteration of sorts of this card.

First, i had that lil butterfly on the ribbon where the bow is, but the consensus on twitter was that bfly was too small for the ribbon.
Second version: moved bfly to the leaf and left ribbon bare. but that was boring and i'd mussed the ribbon a bit when i was fussing around, so it NEEDED something.
Third, i die cut a slightly larger bfly, blinged it up and put it on the button. I liked it, but it still wasn't right.
Finally, I moved the bigger bfly inside, and threaded a piece of white ribbon through the button, tied a bow, and called it done.

but it turned out razzleberry with pink. oops.

I needed a card to throw in a pkg for a tweep overseas, and wanted to do the "smooshing of ink on embossing golder" technique, so i did... i smooshed both Melon Mambo and Razzleberry ink on my folder, then ran it through the Big Shot and only part of it took. So i ~~found~~ took my shimmer paint spray, spritzed the folder a few times and ran it through again. i love the effect - shimmery, watercolory... and even tho the embossing on the flowers is off a bit, i think it looks pretty neat.

i then took a sentiment from the SU retired set "Font of you" (a fave) & heat embossed the quote on some razzleberry DSP. I layered the embossed piece on a bigger piece of DSP & plopped it on razzleberry CS, et voilà!

I'm going to submit this to SOS's embossing challenge bc there's both dry embossing & heat embossing . plus, i used scrap DSP.. yay for getting a second, totally different card in for the challenge!

Folks, it's my stampy twitter pal Crookedstamper's birthday today, so please wish her a very happy birthday!! In her honor, I actually made a card last night! late-ish last night, against my better judgement at that, but she's worth it.

I love the baja and grey together.. so purty. On top of being a birthday card for a great pal, it follows the MFT sketch for this week..

and uses a sentiment from the MFT "clearly sentimental about Birthdays" set as a bonus. Plus, the card fits the bill for the SOS challenge "emboss this" as the cupcakes / stands / sentiment were all heat embossed with pearly EP! So yay me for playing along! Plus the baja mat was plucked from the scrap bin (just like that... all sponged and smooched. yay me?), the base was in the pile o'card bases, and the ribbon was in my vat-o-ribbon. so a lil bit of stash used up too.

So Leslie, while the card says to respect grey hairs, i hope you don't find any today, or many over the next year. THank you for being a great friend & sounding board. Here's to many more stampy birthdays! Cheers!!

I'm just under the wire (hah, punny) for this week's SOS challenge - metal mania, . and that's because i had NO IDEA the card I made tonight would fit the bill in the least. I ended up using two red metal brads that I've had forever and a turquoise bit o' bling that i've had almost as long in the bottom sentiment strip. yay stash! i've had that DSP forevah.. time to start using it up.. and the ribbon? used to be on a ribbon sampler from when I was a demo... i covered up the hole with the sentiment strip :D

The card is based on this week's Mojo Monday sketch, which I love & will probably use a few more times.

SOS 35 - borders

I had a request from one of my tweeps to make a card for a mutual friend who will be doing an IUI cycle in a month or so. Would I make a card to help cheer her on? Sure thing! I found these great cheerleader digis at Squigglefly - how cute are they?!?

Anyway, I colored 'em in using my SU markers (& a blender pen for the hair), and then popped 'em up on dimensionals. I'm submitting this for SOS 35, as the "borders" on my card are both cut from MFT dies - banner & grass. Everything but the card base & paper the girls are printed on was already in the scrap bin.

And yes, the banner says #cougareggs. :D

I'm getting in (just) under the wire for PDCC114 - the colors were burgundy, gold & purple.The colors I used are SU cherry cobbler, kraft (spritzed with shimmer paint for sparkle), and concord crush DSP (no, really). Gold embossing powder & smooch spray shimmer up the card. I used Unity's Shoot for the Moon set to create this card, which is actually a congratulations card for my friend Mariam whose first book was released earlier this month. Check it out!

I made the trek to the big scrapbooky store on the other side of the harbour this past weekend to pick up some paper I'd had put on hold & found this great Lego paper while I was there. Saturday was also the birthday of a friend's little guy, and he's a big Lego fan, so I set out to make him a (belated) card with my new goodies. I made the 4 panel on the weekend, then I got stuck. Once I saw today's Mojo Monday sketch tho, the juices started flowing again and I was able to finish the card.

This week at the Simon Says Stamp challenge blog we're to use stripes and/or spots and I have both covered, so yay! two challenges covered! (i count the gingham paper & texture of grosgrain ribbon as stripey...)
